Checkmate in the Valley 2025 Chess Tournament

Calling all strategic thinkers! Compete in our first-ever chess tournament, open to players of all skill levels, ages 13 – 18. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned player, come test your skills, meet fellow chess enthusiasts, and have a great time. In partnership with the Shenandoah Valley Chess Club.
Tournament Details
This is an unranked tournament.
Format: Quads (4 players per group)
Number of Players: 28
Allowed Ages: 13-18
Prizes: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies
$200 in cash prizes
Schedule
10:00 AM – 10:15 AM: Registration and Check-in
• Participants arrive and check in for the tournament.
• Finalize any last-minute registrations.
10:15 AM – 10:30 AM: Opening Remarks
• Welcome participants and explain the tournament format.
• Outline the rules and schedule for the day.
10:30 AM – 12:00 PM: Initial Quads
• 28 players (7 groups of 4)
12:00 PM – 1:00 PM: Lunch Break
• Participants can enjoy a quick lunch and socialize.
1:00 PM – 3:00 PM: Final Quad
• The winners of the 7 quads + 1 highest-scoring 2nd place player.
***Additional Tie-Breakers / Semi-Finals As Needed***
3:00PM – 3:30PM: Awards Ceremony
• Announce the winners and distribute awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places.

General Information
Chess sets and boards will be provided. You are encouraged to bring your own clocks.
Volunteers are needed to assist with logistics, including set up and off loading. Please contact Rene Picota to assist.
